“I value stories crafted with beautiful language, stories that illuminate the human experience, fostering empathy and connection…”
Kimberly Smith Surette is a retired educator now fulfilling their dream of becoming a published author of literary fiction.
Kimberly began their writing life by taking classes at the Grubstreet Creative Writing Center in the Seaport District of Boston. She is deeply grateful for the excellent instructors and classmates who helped them develop and refine their craft.
Kimberly was selected to the Novel Generator program in 2021, a full-year intensive led by magnificent author, instructor, and human, Marjan Kamali (The Lion Women of Tehran). It was during the Generator that Kimberly joined “The Quartet”, a writing support circle that has been an essential ingredient to their growth and success. Thank you Laura, Monika, and Susanna!
The following year, Kimberly was selected to the Novel Incubator, run by the incomparable Michelle Hoover (Bottomland). Michelle is a teacher, leader, podcaster (The 7am Novelist), and the coordinator of extraordinary writing retreats. It was during one of these retreats, on the island of Cyprus, that Kimberly wrote their soon-to-be published novella.
Kimberly is an avid fan of baseball and works for the Portland Sea Dogs baseball club (Boston Red Sox AA affiliate). A lifelong musician (conductor/director; clarinet/saxophone/trumpet) and music enthusiast, Kimberly has developed a particular passion for the indie-alternative and indie-folk genres, cultivating an extensive music library and attending live concerts when possible.
Most important of all to Kimberly Smith Surette is their wife, Paula, sweet dog, Amoreena, and cherished family members and friends. You’ll find them at their garden oasis in Ogunquit, their “Beautiful Place by the Sea”.
